From a Doorstep on Douglas Pike to Senator Reed's Office
After attending Senator Jack Reed's Business Leadership Day in D.C., I reflect on a conversation from the campaign trail. While canvassing on Douglas Pike, I met a resident frustrated by unanswered complaints about confusing road markings and dead trees lining the road. Because Douglas Pike is a state road, the town can't fix these issues on its own. I contacted Senator Reed's office, which arranged for the Department of Transportation to reach out to the resident. I make the case for visible, trackable follow-up on residents' concerns, so the issues people bring to Town Council get resolved and leaders stay accountable. I also urge North Smithfield residents, especially on Douglas Pike, to drive slowly and stay safe during the Nor'easter.
